How to make your CALF muscles HAPPY (in just 5 minutes!) 😄

Are you a foam rolling rookie? We get a LOT of questions about foam rolling, especially from newbies, which is why we’ve created a new series called “Intro to Foam Rolling.” Our first featured exercise focuses on your CALVES.

But first, WHY ROLL AT ALL?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Simply put: Foam rolling loosens tissue in ways that stretching alone can’t. Have you ever woken up from a deep sleep with a muscle spasm (aka charley horse)?? They are AWFUL. Foam rolling greatly reduces the likelihood of charley horses by relaxing and lengthening the muscle tissue.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So, what can you do to prevent charley horses in your calves?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣ Start with the outside part (exterior) of your right calf.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣ Place roller under the bottom of your right calf and rotate your right foot outwards.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣ Lift up with your hands, and roll up and down your calf 4x. Use your left leg for support.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4️⃣ Now, do the same thing for the inside part (interior) of your right calf. Do this by rotating your right foot inwards, and roll up and down 4x.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5️⃣ End with “windshield wipers” for a cross-friction massage. Start at the bottom of your right calf and “windshield wiper” your foot 4x.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6️⃣ Do you windshield wipers at your mid-calf and then your upper calf.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
7️⃣ Switch to your left leg and repeat!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⭐ Our video demonstrates using a SHORT cork foam roller and doing the exercises 1 leg at a time. But, you can also use a LONG foam roller and do either single leg or BOTH legs at the same time ⭐
